After the Light of Dei‘s assault on the Excavator’s Guild den, Goram Glemox said a few words to the guild members. Recognizing that the Light of Dei had openly declared war on the scholarly guild, he gave everyone the opportunity to walk away from the guild. Although several men and women were prepared to leave, words of encouragement from Talathel and Calliope persuaded the majority of the guild members to stick around.
Goram informed the Masked Saviors that the guild had prepared a secondary shelter that the could move to in case of this type of emergency. However, it had been a few years since anybody had visited it, so he asked the party to check the place while he and his crew prepared to move out of their current location.
Just outside of the den, Ka’rath and Tessa spotted a straggler lurking in the cavern entrance. They chased him down and killed him before he could escape, but couldn’t determine whether he was a member of the Light of Dei, or associated with some other force.
The party used a map provided by Goram to locate the fallback den. The map led them to a dilapidated building in the ruins tier a few hours away. The building had once been a temple of Surdella, the identity of Ysdella before his death. Like many wooden buildings in the ruins, time had heavily worn the structure’s integrity. The third story had partially collapsed into the second, and nearby buildings leant their weight against the temple’s outer walls. Despite this, the map clearly depicted it as the location of the Excavator refuge.
The front doors of the building were gummed up with wax, which the party determined was the sign of a giant wasp nest inside the building. They decided to enter through a window, and made it into the large main chamber without disturbing the wasps. Dissatisfied with the lack of action, they started disturbing the wasp nest, and attracted five horse-sized wasps with stingers like longswords dripping with poison. Although Ka’rath was nearly killed in the melee, the party defeated the few denizens of the small nest.
The rest of the compound contained various historical valuables and shiny treasures, as well as an ochre jelly which lurked inside an electrically trapped altar. A secret trapdoor leading below the stone foundation into a large basement was found at the back of the temple. A cache therein, marked with the Excavator’s guild sigil, held preserved foods, weapons, and other essentials. Satisfied that the refuge had been made relatively safe, the party went to the Ork’s Tusk to inform the Excavator’s guild refugees.
With the excavator’s guild fully indebted to them, the party now has free access to many of the Excavator’s guild offerings, and members of the excavator’s guild can switch out as PCs.
