The party spent some time planning, shopping, and scouting in preparation for their mission to rescue Goram Glemox before his execution. They learned that since their daring public rescue of Wallace of the Woods, people in the district had begun to tell tales of them, calling them the Masked Saviors of Shadow. After obtaining a scroll of Scrying, the party remotely viewed Goram Glemox. He was being held in a small cell with an ironwood door, imprisoned somewhere other than the Bureau of the Light. Calliope made a guess that Goram was being held somewhere closer to Furio Anduin‘s estate. Tessa scouted the tenement level below the estate, and discovered that a basement had been built beneath, its stone walls intruding down into the top of an old tenement. Using Tessa’s connections, the party purchased an adamantine earthshaker capable of smashing through stone walls, and a few scrolls of Silence to cover their intrusion.
The party found a place in the tenement level where they could breach Furio’s basement without attracting the attention of the tenement locals. Under cover of Silence, the enlarged Ka’rath and Calliope made short work of the wall, breaking a hole in it big enough for the party to easily pass through. They were fortunate enough to enter a vault containing silver ceremonial armor and a few other valuable items. The rogue carefully disabled the alarm protecting the room’s regular entrance, while Talathel painted his calling card on the room’s wall. Tessa scouted the area ahead. As expected, Furio’s basement was primarily being used as a small dungeon. Driselle slumbered the single lethargic guard on duty, and Tessa tied him up. The party found Goram Glemox being held there, as well as a manic prisoner who demanded to be set free as well.
Although the party’s escape from Furio’s dungeon was stealthy and nearly without incident, elite pursuers quickly caught up with them during their escape. The rail riders were quickly dispatched. After laying low at the Ork’s Tusk for an hour or so, the group made their way back to the Excavator’s Guild den, where Goram got to work immediately decoding the Koburan Codices. In the intervening hours, the party’s heroism was warmly celebrated by the members of the Excavators’ Guild, who now accept them as true friends. Although Goram couldn’t decode the codex from Hans’ lair, the one from the Ruins of Ys’larrah contained some kind of warning. Chunks of text were missing, unrecoverable, but what remained was the following:
Any who read this, h………… warning…………..… was annihilated ………………….ears ago by the Terri……….…… Destroyer. We learned w………………..ld travel, and sent…………..from our doom…………….liver this message. TIDAL is coming, and we don’t know how to…………..…u must find a way. We needed m………
While the party tried to deduce the missing parts of the message, the alarm bells of the den started ringing. An initial assault of soldiers and blink dogs attacked the base. Although they bombed a hole in the front walls to open the defensive bottleneck open wide, the Excavators’ Guildmembers were able to repel the attackers with the help of the Masked Saviors. However, the location of the guild den has been compromised, and it is only a matter of time before the full might of the Light of Dei is brought to bear.
