The campaign begins in the large, melting-pot district of Ermouth. Ermouth is situated near the edge of the ecumenopolis, just a week’s travel from the Fringe. Citizens of Ermouth can travel freely to and from the neighboring districts. Ermouth is known for its mithral exports and a higher than average Koburan population.
Twenty years ago, a great chasm opened up beneath one of the lowest levels. Although this tragedy resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands, the more recently built upper districts were designed to withstand such a cataclysm, a common occurrence in the last century. Usually, these collapses yield little more than rubble and corpses, but Ermouth’s collapse was a blessing and a curse. This collapse unearthed a vast cross-section of the ancient city below which contained a great deal of precious metals. Dubbed the “metromines”, it is estimated that there is enough wealth down there to appease the elves of Ur’dei for decades to come. With most of Ermouth’s working class killed, there was room for humanoids from across the realm to move in and work the metromines. This effect has made Ermouth one of the most diverse communities in all the Ecumenopolis, and the dangers of the metromines attract all types who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty, whether they are work crews paid a meager sum to find ancient mithral stores for the city’s nobility, or independent delving guilds looking to score some ancient artifact to sell to the highest bidder. The first adventure will be this kind of delve, in which the adventurers will be delving into an ancient Koburan ruin deep in the metromines. They will be tasked with retrieving a mysterious artifact known as the Ark of Ys’larrah for a noble named Baron Regdar Obin.
